Expert in energy strategy

Patrick Claessens

A graduate civil engineer from ULB, I spent most of my career in the energy sector, first at Electrabel, then at Sibelga.
I assumed responsibility for most of the operational activities of a distribution system operator, as department manager and then as technical director.
I played a central role in the liberalization of the energy market for the Brussels-Capital Region and in the unbundling of the activities of network manager versus energy supplier. I have largely contributed to Sibelga becoming a full-fledged company, in particular by sponsoring its IT autonomy program.

More recently, I have in particular supervised the remote metering programs for trade and industry as well as the development of energy services (central purchasing office, energy accounting, optimized regulation, renovation of boilers, installation of photovoltaic panels, installation of cogeneration, etc.) for the benefit of the municipal and regional authorities in the Brussels-Capital Region.

I have also been on the initiative of collective self-consumption projects and the regional correspondent vis-à-vis the transmission system operator, Elia, for the implementation of its flexibility services.

I now wish to make this accumulated experience available to all types of actors (start-ups, SMEs, communities, conventional energy suppliers, network managers, public institutions, etc.) active – or wishing to be – in the energy transition.
